45 Abandoned Places all over the World which Are Eerily Beautiful

Marco Island Dome Homes, Florida

The Dome Homes of Marco Island would be a good place to find Luke Skywalker meditating if he lived in Florida. Former oil tycoon built the structures in 1981 to serve as his family’s eco-friendly vacation home. Despite this, Florida will always be Florida, and eroding shorelines and harsh weather rendered the Dome Homes uninhabitable. The futuristic buildings are not being re-occupied, but it sure is fun making up legends about where they came from and what they do-the Stonehenge of Southern Florida, if you will.

Kolmanskop, Namibia

By looking at it now, you wouldn’t guess Kolmanskop was once a place of diamond mining and extravagance in 1908. But once the fair-weather inhabitants discovered more diamonds south of Kolmanskop, it instantly became a ghost town. There have been several films featuring its eerie, sand-filled houses, notably Dust Devil (1993) and The King Is Alive (2000).
