Shanghai World Financial Center

HISTORY

An important hub of commerce and culture in Shanghai, the Shanghai World Financial Center is a mixed-use tower. The building features a number of tourist attractions along with office space and real estate, including Sky Arena and Sky Walk, which offer incredible views of the city below.

There is probably no skyscraper more beautiful than the Shanghai World Financial Center if you think all skyscrapers are simply tall glass boxes. The building form and subtracted volume near the top are created by intersecting two arcs across a square prism. The heavens are aligned with the earth to create balance. Symbols derived from ancient Chinese art are the inspiration for this concept. There are plenty of ways to incorporate cultural meaning into the design of a super tall structure.
