Lake Reschen Bell Tower, Italy

The Italian electric company Montecatini began building a dam to unite Reschensee and Mittersee in South Tyrol in 1940. Before the dams were built, several villages were located in the area, but were flooded (intentionally) as a result of the construction of the dams. An old 14th-century bell tower stands as the only reminder of the lost cities. During the winter, when the lake freezes over, you can even walk right up to the tower amid the surrounding mountains

Nicosia International Airport, Cyprus

The Nicosia International Airport was a busy and successful airport between 1930 and 1974 when the Turkish army invaded Cyprus. As a result of the rusting of planes outside, check-in counters and boarding areas of the airport have accumulated thick layers of dust and bird droppings for nearly half a century.
