45 Abandoned Places all over the World which Are Eerily Beautiful

City Methodist Church, Indiana

Gary, Indiana, famous for being the birthplace of Michael Jackson, also has one of the country’s prettiest abandoned churches (and some of the creepiest ghost stories).. U.S. donated money to build the original structure in 1926. The City Methodist Church is an architectural marvel featuring Gothic architecture, stone pillars, and stained glass. In 1975, Gary’s population dwindled and the steel industry faltered, and the church closed completely.. In spite of it’s crumbling state, the structure is still beautiful, and is a favorite location for film directors. You might recognize it from A Nightmare on Elm Street or Transformers: Dark of the Moon (yes, that’s the third one).

Poveglia, Italy

In addition to its use as a quarantine zone for bubonic plague victims, Poveglia Island also served as a storage area for Napoleon’s weapons and as a place of mental health care during the early 20th century.. A doctor jumped into the bell tower of the asylum and ended up killing himself, according to The Travel Channel. You can see Poveglia from the beaches of nearby Lido, but visiting the island is illegal today
