In addition to being the fourteenth tallest building in the world, the Lakhta Center in Saint Petersburg, Russia, is the tallest building in Europe.. It is, however, not the tallest building in the country. In Moscow, that distinction belongs to Ostankino Tower. While the Lakhta Center towers over historic Saint Petersburg, it encountered some opposition from those who felt it would detract from the city’s beauty.. As part of the deal, it was relocated to a new area called Lakhta in Saint Petersburg. It represents both Russia’s past and its bright future, according to many locals.
